The classroom has a welding table, a bank of tools, and a whiteboard covered with measurements. Students spend part of the week learning safety and theory, then apply it on the shop floor with a mentor nearby.
Employers say the model helps them find workers who are curious and dependable, not only applicants who already have a specific credential. Students say being paid while they learn makes the decision feel possible.
The first group is small by design. Program leaders want to refine the curriculum and make sure each apprentice receives enough individual attention before expanding enrollment.
