By 7:30 each morning, the front windows of Hearthline Bakery are fogged from the ovens. A short line forms before the doors officially open, made up of office workers, downtown residents, and customers who drove across the river for one particular sesame loaf.

Owner Priya Shah spent nearly a year repairing the old storefront and testing recipes in a borrowed kitchen. She said the hardest part was learning how much a neighborhood business depends on routines that cannot be measured on a spreadsheet.

The shop is still small, but its tables have become a useful signal. People stop for coffee, stay to talk, and leave with suggestions for what the corner could become next.
