The mural had been part of the block for nearly twenty years, though weather and repairs had softened its colors. When artists began cleaning the wall, they found several layers of paint and a handful of names that were not in the original project notes.

The restoration team is treating the wall as both artwork and neighborhood record. Some sections will be repainted, while others will be left imperfect so the history of the place is not erased in the name of freshness.

A public painting day is planned for August. Residents are being invited to bring photographs and memories that may help identify the people and events represented in the older scenes.
